Have you ever wanted an item of clothing so bad you were willing to drive 40 miles round trip to get it? No- oh that’s just me… Well this is how the story goes: Girl walks in to J.Crew with one Elizabeth & James blouse, Girl covets said blouse. I go online see it is sold out on Nordstrom’s and still $230+ on other sites. Go to Nordstrom to try to locate it, it’s been “racked”. Locate THE LAST SMALL IN ALL OF NORDSTROMS at Topanga’s Nordstrom Rack. She drives her little caboose up there so fast (but still drive the speed limit) and frantically and successfully tracks down the blouse. Bonus: The blouse which has tiny dice on it was marked down to $74.95. Win.
Blouse: Elizabeth & James Blazer: Nordstrom Bottoms: Madewell Wedges: J.Crew Tote: Rebecca Minkoff
This is one of my favorite style of tops, the tie is so reminiscent of a more simple time where women left their decolletage to the imagination if you know what I mean! I don’t generally get to sport an outfit that isn’t solely comprised from J.Crew so I jumped to document it. I’d love to post some cute outfits more frequently.
What items are you lusting after this spring? Colored denim, bold prints, & sherbert colors are catching my eye the most!
This picture is from a short day trip to Malibu with Jeremy a few weeks ago. We love Malibu but haven’t gotten to explore it as much as we’d like. The farmer’s market is fun and we got some “artisan” salt from Hepp’s Salt Barrel. The views are always so beautiful. All this beach talk between Malibu and the Santa Monica Pier has got me thinking of bathing suits. Which is very appropriate on this rainy day!
Hot Dot Underwire Halter. $52/$50. J.Crew online only.
This is ADORABLE. Super retro, conservative without being too covered up. I’d get this one right now if I didn’t have a yellow polkadot bikni from Guess… but I guess you can never have too many polka dots…
The one thing I’ve learned from working in retail is that animal prints (done tastefully) never go out of style! I love this one piece by Vince Camuto available at Lord & Taylor for $104. I like that the print is classic with a trendy detail, the neon piping. Fun for pool side!
And of course you need a cover up! This one from TopShop is ADORABLE. and I need it. For $42 it wont break the bank. I can imagine walking around in Vegas in this bad boy so I might need to make a virtual “trip” to TopShop soon.
What’s on your radar for swimwear this season? I am so excited for it to actually be warm enough to wear a bathing suit! Hope you all have a great weekend!
My dad and his buddy are heading east on old Route 66! I woke up early to see them off on their journey, which starts on the Santa Monica Pier, then they will make some cool stops along the route to Oklahoma City, OK. I just really love the sign above the entrance to the pier. All this talk about road trips makes me reminiscent of my own road trip from NY to LA!
Here is a gem from our road trip stop at Graceland with one of Elvis’ private planes. All this talk of traveling gives me wanderlust but I’ll have to hold out until our trip to Las Vegas in June for my birthday. It is sure to be an excellent trip.
Today was the second of my two days off this week. That is one of the only big downfall to working retail, besides being on your feet ALL DAY. You don’t work on a “normal” schedule. Your schedule is based on when most people have free time, so lot of weekends. It’s rare I get one off, but today was a good day off. I didn’t have much on my to-do list but to buy shampoo, exciting huh? Well some Yelping gone wrong landed me at a Super Cuts to buy some Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner. They do the 2/$30 deal and it’s such a bargain, you’ll never buy anything in a bottle less than 32oz again. I also picked up a bottle of this:
It’s supposed to be great and AAA members save 10% at Super Cuts… it makes me kind of want to go get my hair cut there… JUST KIDDING. One step at a time! I think the cheapest place to get it is Amazon, which I’m not always a huge fan of. Waiting for delivery is a bummer. I’m an instant gratification kind of gal!
I’m off to enjoy rest of my night, which will involve babysitting because no day is every really a day off!
What do you like to do on your days off? Also have you tried any new beauty products lately?
A few weeks ago, I took this picture of groceries to show Jeremy what I got… yeah, you know you do weird stuff too! And I thought my Keds were getting a little rough around the edges, I mean my toe was practically popping a hole on top. I looked around and couldn’t find anything as cute as the pink ones. I don’t really like to order things offline so when I saw the navy polka dot Keds at Madewell, it was sneaker love at first sight!
It was such a good choice too! I hadn’t been able to wear them until this afternoon when Jeremy and I walked around Santa Monica, got salads and sat at the beach. They make me so happy when I look at my feet, isn’t that all that matters?
On a side note, this weekend was pretty great! After such a rough week (40-hours-on-my-feet-busy-as-heck-super-under-staffed-retail-craziness) I went a little crazy, last night at In-N-Out with my friend Emily.
Particularly rough weeks call for animal style fries. They are ridiculous and well worth the gazillion calories. Cheese, grilled onion & 1000 island dressing. Oy. Thank goodness for fresh local ingredients or else I would be feeling quite guilty. Moving to more of a guiltless pleasure…
To finish off this beautiful California Easter Sunday, we made a pit stop at Yogurtland. The mochi on top of the frozen yogurt. 🙂
(yellow roses mean friendship & they were my grandmother’s favorite)
My grandmother was many things to many people. A mother, wife, manager, pilot & best friend. I’m lucky to have so many memories with her, making cakes, cookies and other confections. Getting sandwiches at her favorite little lunch shop in downtown Macon, GA. Or swiping orange slice candies from the golden pineapple before dinner. She would have been 79 today and all I know is that she left us a bit too early.
Have you ever been standing in the middle of the supermarket with your boyfriend who decides that he wants to make mozzarella sticks for dinner? So you both frantically look for recipes on your IPhones in order to make sure you have all the ingredients? Well that was me and Jeremy a few nights ago when we starving in Ralphs, FYI- mozzarella sticks are not something you make when you’re starving. Needless to say it was a stressful process.
Mozz sticks are no easy feat, in fact it is an art. They need to be gently coated and then coaxed into the pan of hot oil! We decided to pan fry them versus over fry them because apparently you’re supposed to freeze them for an hour before you oven fry them. We did not have patience for waiting an hour and then 15-20 min to bake. We poured about a 1/2 of an inch of olive oil in to the pan and slipped those puppies in.
As you can see frying the cheese sticks is very serious, you mustn’t lose focus or you will have pools of cheese in the pan. Or worse, blackened mozzarella sticks! The result is luscious pillows of cheese and panko that melt in your mouth…
Needless to say these bad boys hit the spot. There are only a couple of things I’d do differently next time; buy a better quality mozzarella, we bought Ralph’s brand because it was cheap. Oh and freeze them longer. I think that plays a lot into the consistency of the middle.
What have you made for dinner recently? Anything as non-traditional as mozzarella sticks?
This is what happens when I abduct two gals from work, go to Paper Source, and get a stampin’. We had a lot of fun dishing on the latest celebrity gossip and talking about our Valentine’s Day plans. Luckily Paper Source made it really easy for us to make our Valentines with out too much of a mess!
Who’s your Valentine this year? Did you make Valentines yet or will you grab them from the drugstore the night before? Hey no shame in the Justin Beiber Valentines… right?
